| '51 Porsche 356 Pre-A |
One sunny afternoon when I was cursing and sweating in the office I received a phone call from a
friend of mine. I asked where hell he was and what was that noise in the background, "I'm just
doing 135kph in a 51 Porsche" Kai replied.
This 356 had been in Finland ever since it was new and this is what I think made it so special. During that period Finland was still emerging from World War II and the last thing in peoples minds was probably sports cars. Unfortunately the car was sold to Belgium from Finland like many other aircooled classics. I have no idea of who had owned or imported the car or car's history, but there was a funny co-incidense. At some time during the 70's car belonged to elderly gentleman who operated some sort of a business in Tattarisuo in Helsinki.
Few days before the very same buddy of mine who picked the car up had bought really ugly aluminium roof
rack from BUGPAJA. The roof rack had been sold to BUGPAJA
by an old man from Tattarisuo. That roof rack was too wide for Beetle but guess which car it fitted really well..
The original Porsche engine had blown up in late 50's and then car was fitted with new 25 hp VW 1200 engine that was still in the car. Original engine was found from another VW enthusiast's collections. It shares so many components of the Beetle but drives still quite differently. Also the view from drivers seat is unbelievable. Even though the seats are from some british sports car and many Porsche bits have been replaced by VW parts (plus carpet set looks really porno and some moron has cutted the Petri steering wheel) I would still quote Beavis and Butthead and say this rocks more than anything that have ever rocked before. Tomi in the fourth photo looks like he has just about messed his pants..
Couple of photos of the car from '96 Helsinki Thunder event (DTM race in Helsinki) where the car was displayed
by Porsche Club of Finland.
