Piink '57 Oval
Owner: Kai Aulankoski, WCA

First time I saw the car was in the Hot Rod and Rock Show in 1992. I wasn't into VWs at that time but Kai's Oval stand out of the mass in every way. The Oval was featured in Volksworld in '93 in this disquise.

Kai Aulankoski's Oval is one of the very first Resto-Lookers in Finland. Kai found the car in late 80's in good original condition from an old man who had owned the car for a long time.

Car needed new paint and got a respray. The new paint finish looked kinda odd, but the painter promised to give some discount since he had ready mix from one previous customer. It was still quite close to original VW Prairie Beige and Kai accepted the deal.

Kai soon found out what the previous customer in that paint shop had been; Russian built Lada (VAZ in most other countries)! After seeing beige Lada parked next to his ride he got just a bit pissed and headed to paint shop again (different). This time he followed the Oval's previous owner's advise "don't ruin it, lad.." and had it painted in hot Porsche Magenta.

1300cc Supercharged by Judson

Along with Make Railo's Looker Kai's Oval is sort of a back bone of WCA's machinery. In the VW Expo of '97 both cars appeared in WCA's club display.

Interior got new white and pink tuck 'n roll seats and door panels by Kai. Car has been loaded with rare accessories like custom spotlight/mirror, fog lamp, vent shades, chromed license plate light, Petri steering wheel, parcel shelf, Hella reverse light etc.

Oval was slammed in the max from the beginning. In wheel department most of the trends have been tried and tested. Originally the Oval had detailed steel wheels with smooth hubcaps and beaty rings like typical 80's Lookers in Europe. During the early 90's EMPI 5-spoke copies were tried, first in painted and later in polished format. In '97 Flat 4 BRMs were fitted when they came available in Finland first time.

In engine wise two interesting choices have been 1300cc with Judson and the current stroker. Kai hasn't driven much with the oval during the past 4 or 5 years, which is a shame, even though his Barndoor is pretty cool. Hopefully Kai gives Oval the attention it deserves when WCA has 10 year birthday in 2001.
