My 1960 Karmann Kabriolett Beetle

Talk about dream come true.. I had wanted a genuine Karmann Kabriolet Beetle for some time and when the opportunity came at Bug Run in Mantorp Park '99 I didn't waste time. I wasn't prepared to buy anything else than just few accessories like Sprint Star wheels and pop-out windows for my '63 Beetle. Well, I got the wheels, but didn't plan to have a car attached to them :-)

I would like to thank here my buddies Samu, Jussi, Pasi and Jyrki who made it possible to buy the car at the show and Sebastian who drove it to Finland as I continued my trip to Bad Camberg for next weekend.

Car is slammed and fitted with Sprint Star wheels, 4.5x15 in front and 5.5x15 in rear. Brakes are from Porsche 356A and they rule! I probably will fit them to my '63 Sedan depending to which car the new stroker engine will be installed.

Engine is a stock rebuilt 1600 with all the shiny parts one can imagine, but those will be replaced with original stuff for better cooling.

In near future I am not going to do anything major than sort out the engine, paint the Sprint Stars in proper colour, fix electrics and start hunting some parts for restoration. Some day, when all of the needed parts exist car is going to have full body off the plate restoration and repainted to Gulf Blue like my '63 Sedan. It probably never will be fully restored, but 100% restored body and interior with slammed suspension, hot wheels and bigger engine.

On the left is the birth certificate from Volkswagen Factory Museum. Yup, this is it, the ever popular topic of the oh-so-difficult-to-get-item in FVWA's discussion forum :-)

I was pretty anxious in receiving it since it was one way to determine that I have genuine cabriolet body on a genuine cabriolet chassis. I didn't have any problems in receiving it..

If you're interested in receiving one for your Volkswagen send your name, address and chassisnumber of the car along with 20DM to following address: Dr. B. Wiersch, Stiftung AutoMuseum Volkswagen, Dieselstrasse 35, D-38442 Wolfsburg, Germany.
