Merca Kungen's latest..
Matti 'Merca Kungen' Äyräväinen from West Coast Aircoolers had switched from VWs to Mercs.
It wasn't any old Taxi, but 220 SE Coupe with super charged small block Chevrolet. One of the nicest
touches were the Rader-inspired wheels.
Street Rods
Every second year seems to be some kind of a special celebration, this time it was the 25th
anniversary of the show, the show has come a long way since the Vantaa Ice Hall, but the memory lane area
was bit lame. It was nice that FHRA had dragged (heh..) the Beaver Rocker Ford Cortina out of storage. The
car is old Finnish Street Altered (class run prior to Pro Stock) car.
Air Cooled cars
Jussi Jyränkö from BUGPAJA rescued this old Finnish Custom VW. It is actually built in late 70's,
(article in V8 Magazine 5/81), along with period custom gimmicks like flake paint, four head lights and white
vinyl interior. Car is actually an Oval with a Split rear-window section..
Nicest new VW in the show was this '62. I liked the combination of Porsche Cup-style wheels and
NB green colour a lot. Original green fender beading and running board mats added nice hot rod appeal to it.
Sluts Racing, oh sorry Slugs, had largest number of cars presented of the two clubs in the show.
Mr Särkelä and VW Pahis were the quilty ones behind this little joke on the right, but revenge will be so sweet!!
Janne Mäkinen had rebuilt his 912 totally during the winter, modern wheels look nice and right
home even the car is 30 years old.
