Miscellanous shots from my So Cal Trip
28.2.-1.3.2002

San Diego tourist shots

First Cal Looker I saw during the trip, certain Luftsick member who is into 80's Cal Look (not the Finnish version of it) should get some kicks. I can promise that this is the first and only Baja Bug picture in these pages.

Cool '59 356A in Balboa Park, which belonged to nice Porsche&Ghia enthusiast couple.

San Diego Automotive Museum

The Hudson Convertible gave me some good vibes and after seeing this experimental AMX I am willing to take back some of the bad things I have said about AMC/Rambler over the years :-)

Naturally a cliche 356 had to be there and it had to be a C-model (Super Beetle of 356s).. I digged the gray paint with red interior though.

A day in Orange County
The trip was solely on business but I managed to squize in couple of extra days. I learned later that I should have taken two extra days more, since Hot VWs Magazine's drag races were held on the day I flew home and Pomona Swap Meet on the day following that. (Small miracle that I didn't cut my wrists or something when I heard about those events..) One of the free days was spent naturally in Orange County doing VW parts shopping..

BFY Obsolete Parts

Some shots from BFY's cool showroom. It looked exactly like what I have seen in magazines over the years.

Gene Berg

What I said about BFY's showroom applies to Gene Berg too :-) Thanks for Tim for the tour through machine shop.

The black '67 race car, I was the 3rd Luftsick member who touched it :-)

Bergs' test bench (caught you Kotten!) '67, where their products are being tested.

Dee Berg's Split Window and nice Cal Looker belonging Clyde Berg's friend. Note the 356B brakes.

One of Bergs' genuine BRMs with Firestone slicks and close-up shot of Berg IDA.

Dagel's Street Rod Shop

I noticed the shop when searching the Custom 1 Warehouse, I thought that maybe there is some cool Rod stuff to use on a Hot Rod styled VW. There weren't but, they had huge shop in the rear of the sales area where they build customer project Rods & Customs. Many thanks to Jamie for playing the tour guide.

Custom 1 Warehouse

Some shots from Custom 1 Warehouse, I decided to see it, since they advertise a lot in magazines. Most of the stuff was Mr Bug Taiwanese EMPI, so nothing miraculous, some interesting project cars though.

Wolfsburg West

Wolfsburg West had moved from Orange to Corona. Too bad that they have decided to drop their showroom, so no cars shown except Ron Bengry's sunroof Zwitter in the parking lot. It was also nice surprise to meet Richard whom we met on the 1999 WCA Tour on our way to Bad Camberg.
