Bug Show
8. - 10.8.2003, Spa Francochamps, Belgium

Tourist shot of the Casino in the town of Spa. Is it just me or does the scenery beat Pälkäne? Bug Show beats probably any other event in Europe. All of the arrangements seem to be quite smooth during the weekend, there aren't that much queuing that you would expect with having this number of people around. There isn't much to bitch about the weekend, weather was bit hot for Nordic guy but can't really complain.

The quality and number of the cars is quite awesome, that is probably due to the location of the event. Besides the locals, show gets participants from UK, France, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Norway, Denmark, Netherlands..

Spa Francochamp circuit museum

If you get bored with VWs the circuit museum is nice change. On the left is first Bugatti on this site and probably the last one too, just to give an idea about the museum's collection. Bit of Nordic Formula 1 history, the Fittipaldi F1 car of Keke Rosberg and Ronnie Petterson's March.

Pair of cars having 'cojones' written all over them. Porsche 917/30 and 917K driven by David Piper and Pedro Rodriguez. Steve McQueen also drove the same car in the classic film 'Le Mans'.

This Zwitter from Der Kleine Torpedo was one of my favourite cars in the event. It displays perfectly the idea about beautiful German Look inspired car does not necessary have to be Super Beetle.

Maroon Baboon from Norway.

Ploon had added some lettering to his single cab since the last time I saw it.

French Look Notchback. Polished Cup wheels work very well with the gold metallic paint.

Really cool German Looker from Netherlands.

The engine of project 'fastest Beetle in Germany' on the right.

Swap meet

Kobus Cantraine's parts for sale..

Some other vendors items, how cool are those gauges fitted to the Split glove box lid..

Water Pump Killers

Eric Bertrand's 11 second Oval from WPK. These guys take the racing very seriously, besides the performance detailing of the cars is awesome. Eric & Rudy are now operating their own VW shop in Paris.

3rd WPK car, this 1776cc powered one was driven from Paris.

Although I think I am bit moving away from the nostalgic side of Cal Look, this Oval was just mad. Steiner Rads on the other side and genuine EMPI 5-spokes on the other among some very nice vintage accessories.

Men In Bugs

Among the few Nordic guys were the Men In Bugs club from Denmark.

Type III attack

Apal, Belgian sports coupe. I guess Apal is better known from the Speedster replicas.

There are car guys and car guys with brand new flamed Porsche GT2.

DBS

Der Benzin Saufers had also quite impressive load of cars in the event.

Altough I am not into kit cars, this Speedster replica was way cool.

This Ghia has unusual choice for wheels, the 4-lug American Racing.

Type III of Steve's Racing Shop.

Slammed panel..

Michael Berg & Rene Lokdam from Denmark on the right.

This stroker Cabrio from Coxa Nostra club was my favourite car of the event. The owner showed his restoration album and the amount of work totalling to three years is just unbelievable.

Model cars

I have always digged the model cars, couple of my favourite Hot Rod VWs had been built, the Hot School Oval of Julien-David of Super VW and Inch Pincher. 'Old VWs kill tuning', sadly not necessarily true.

Really cool KG/911 hybrid.

This Oval Vert was one of my personal favourites.

Der Autobahn Scrapers

Like the EMPI Imp, Meyers Manx is being reproduced, if you fancy one contact PAT.

Emerson from Der Autobahn Scrapers races this vintage Formula-V. Detailing is just as beautiful as in his Corvair powered Type III.

Nico the owner of the Muppet Racer is also into Off Road action. The green car is one of the first club cars. DAS is celebrating it's 10 year birthday this year, this Looker was actually built before the club was formed and has remained the same.

Der Fieser Luftkuhlers

Two Gas Burnered rides from DFL. Georg Otto from VW Speed Magazine fitted Gas Burners along with updated brakes to his Razor Edge Ghia just couple of days beforer the event. Georg's Ghia was also chosen to Top 20 by the organizers.

Yet another patina Type II from Der Kleine Torpedo / Bug Box, there seems to be everlasting supply of cool Type IIIs and rusty Type IIs in Austria..
