As I always have reasoned, I don't make to many events during the season, so I should really make to the event
that matters and Spa has always been it. Even though weather wasn't perfect, the overall atmosphere and quality
of the cars made the event.
This pastel green Oval was one of my personal favourites.
Nostalgia gassers are really big in Central Europe these days. The Grashopper is built by Otto Bros, from Gent, Belgium.
356 Pre-A belonging to one of BBT Bob's mechanics.
Danish Oval perfectly displaying the meaning of almighty stance. And in my opinion that Cal Look stance
that fits the round shape of the Beetle looks ridiculous in Ghia or Type III.
The rat-look or barn-find displays are getting better, live rooster this time..

Magne Baevre from Norway had to do engine swap in Denmark..
Ralf from Cologne had same year model of a cabriolet as I do. Sadly this kind of a 2-litre Type IV
conversion would be illegal in Finland.
This cabriolet is featured in the current issue of Super VW, the colour is very mid 90's Resto Cal,
hit my nostalgia spot :-)

WPK guys from Paris are finishing nice brown Split.
I remember seeing this '63 Cabriolet in TotalVW in '99, the chromed Sprint Stars have been changed in
favour of chromed EMPI 5-spoke replicas, the side trim is also a great addition. Car had full set of Speedwell gauges
fitted to the dash and full set of Autometers below it.
Even though I am not a big fan of Resto Cal, the carefully chosen pieces of "bling bling" in this car drew me towards
it many times over the weekend. The combination of black top, black area between the side trim and Beryl Green paint
is just gorgeus.
Rat look Ghia was trailered to event. And speaking of participations to car events, the Beetle on the right
would be the perfect car to attend the Forssa Pick-Nick among the Chevrolet STWs..
Kobus' '64 Beetle was featured in Volksworld 9 years ago when it had just been imported to Belgium from
California. It had unbelievable number of genuine EMPI accessories plus genuine BRM wheels but Kobus couldn't even drive
the car legally, being 16 years old at the time. Car changed hands over the years but Kobie got it back and it is now
sporting genuine EMPI 5-spokes.
Clyde Berg's old race car has also found a new home in Europe.
Along with building nostalgia gassers Belgians and Brits are exporting old war horses from USA. Georg Otto from
VW Speed magazine told that the Race Shop Ghia and Little Giat Killer Fiat met in nostalgia line-up the weekend before
in DAS Drag Day. After the event he was accidentally browsing old VW Greats issue and find a photo of those two cars
together. Cool thing considering that both cars were built and raced over 30 years ago and this probably wasn't the
first time the two cars met.
Keith Goss chop-top, Cal Looker also built over 30 years ago.
There seems to be no shortage in high quality Volkswagens in Danish M.I.B. - Men In Bugs Club.
Alejandro Martin is manufacturing repros
of Speedwell's classic carburetor linkage. He is planning to reproduce the whole EMPI Sprint Kit. While discussing with
him we realized that the famous Gene Berg linkage is another Speedwell copy.
Mick from Kinky Mick's Happy Wheel Shack buying and selling rare wheels. Sebastian made some nice purchases..
Sebastian Vuorisalo's '50 Split he and Anssi drove from Finland, plus some of their luggage. One part
of the luggage not pictured was Mr Heimberg who had flown to Dusseldorf, Germany.
I was so amazed about the engine of Ritchie Webb's wheel-standing Cabriolet that I forgot to photograph rest of the car.
Matthew Sanchez's '63 Sunroof was featured in the same issue of Volksworld than Kobus' '64 mentioned above.
Another Men In Bugs ride was this Occer Brown Notchback. Ultra VWs' Stephan Szantai beat me of photographing
it but at least these shots are published before the magazine comes out..
Dutch guys are cleaning the Scandinavian back yards, at least the environmental activists that like
to keep the country side clean are happy. There seems to be no end to the repro wheel market.
What is this Morris Marina doing in VW event? In every European major event report I must include at least one Fridolin shot for Alhoracing and Mika Särkelä.
Good looking '67 or '68 Camaro (cannot see the diffence anymore, if there even was any) with original
rallye wheels. As a teenager I used to dream about muscle or pony cars, but after graduation and steady job when I
actually could have bought one, seeing one of those doesn't cause a same hard-on anymore.
