Based on these photos the story behing this Cabriolet is quite unbelievable. Jocke started with a '58 Beetle Cabriolet
having quite excessive amount of rust and body damage. It had been in a crash and roll in late 60's and then left
outside.
Restoring an early Cabriolet can be a teadious task since there aren't many repair panels available (and if there would
be they would be the usual ping-pong quality). Many Cabriolet owners have had to hunt a another scrapped Cabriolet to
donor parts. Jocke located a '54 Cabriolet to donor parts like roof mechanism, rear window. Among the Oval parts, Oval
dash and NOS Oval cabriolet engine lid was fitted to the car so it looks like complete Oval. The reinforcements under
the dash came from '60 Cabriolet as did the side window frames and vent windows. Repair panels for passenger side came
from '59 Cabriolet. Windshield frame has straightened and modified to match the '54 cabriolet top frame. (Oval windshield
is 8% smaller windshield than 58-64.)
Front beam has been narrowed 6cm per side and have new laser cut relocated shocktowers. Front discs are 330mm
Brembos using Volvo S60-T5 calipers. Wheels are 1.5x18" rims having 225/35-18 tyres.
Last season Jocke used 17" wheels with 205/45 tyres.
All of the hard to find Oval Cabriolet detail pieces are there, rear-view mirror interior light, handles in the header
bow etc.
Some project photos that display the quite complicated structure of Beetle cabriolet's top. The material for top is same
Stayfast as used in Volvo C70 Convertible.
