'61 Karmann Ghia
Matti 'Merca Kungen' Äyräväinen, WCA

Having thousands of VW-related photos on my hard drive and dozens of CDs, it has become pain to figure out whether I have deployed some material to site or not. I simply forgot to publish these photos when I shot them at WCA club meeting in McDonalds of Niittykumpu, Espoo year and half ago. Luckily I was browsing some old CDs found these and got some 5-minute inspiration for HTML-editing..

Matti's KG is the most well known Volkswagen ever been built in Finland. It has been featured in V8 Magazine, Bilsport, Hot VWs, Super VW and Volksworld. His Karmann got first place trophies in events like the 1998 American Car Show, 1999 Bug Run and got the Organizers Trophy in Forssa Pick Nick 1999. Worth mentioning is also the Nice Try trophy in 1988 VW Open where the car was unfinished and trailered to the event. (The trophy was an inside joke between the event organizer Jussi Jyränkö and Matti.)

Car is full of custom gimmicks and has about 100 self made billet parts. Along with the interior pieces the coolest thing are probably the wheels which are two piece item consisting a Compomotive rim and the bolt pattern piece which was machined by Matti.

After the VW Open of 2000 Matti sold the Karmann to a Russian businessman who owns a Volkswagen dealership in Moscow.
