'55 Oval
Owner: Yours truly

I had to postpone the finishing my Cabriolet for summer of 2005 so when the window of opportunity opened for this Oval I didn't waste it. I just had to have a driveable pre '67 Volkswagen for the summer, since last time I had driven a Beetle was in 2002. The Oval was located in Lapland over 800 kms away, owner sent photos and I had couple of long phone calls with him, during the first call I only hoped that it is anything else colourwise than black..

The car sounded to good to miss so we drove over to check it, it turned out everyhting we expected and more. Finnish Railways delivered the car overnight to Helsinki and after that it was just matter of re-registering it and fitting proper wheels plus adjusting the riding height.

The Oval is the best car I've ever owned too bad it is just another black Oval..

Never welded, original paint, original engine, original interior, original fenders and trim.. The fenders have received a respray long time ago, there isn't huge visible difference in the brightness (or lack of) of the paint. Only original thing I am not too keen are the brakes, I'll probably update the Oval brakes to 60's 5x205 brakes.

First time out in public with new appearance. Wheels are 5.5x15" and 6x15" Fuchs shod with 145 and 165 tyres.

The interior is good for 50 year old. The previous owner had dismantled the upholstery of drivers' seat but a spare '54 interior came with the car, luckily that set had a usable seat. Hopefully I get the fabric for the drivers' seat for next season.

The old school stance wasn't in the plans but I wasn't able to detach spring plates from torsion bars. As I've said before I do like the rake a lot in round shape of Beetle but it looks ridicilous with stock engined cars and isn't very good for handling.
