'74 Looker
Owner: Pete Siiskonen, Luftsick

Over 10 years separating these two pics. Progress? Hmm.. In some parts of the country the first evolution version on the left is still popular..

Pete informed that these photos are from Pälkäne (yuk..) 1987 where he met a maniac called 'Takis' for the first time..

Pete bought the '74 in 1985, car was repainted to original Apfel Grun in 1986. All of the chrome trim and bumpers were removed, flashers were relocated to the classic Cal Look spot, full moons were installed. Between 1987-88 car was wearing the ever popular matt black paint. The engine remained stock 1600cc all the time, except in 1987 when single 40mm Dellorto was fitted.

And then some people say; chrome won't take your home..

In 1989 huge sheetmetal work and welding was carried out. The tear-drop taillights were fitted and car received pastel green colour from Opel's color charts. The engine was 1776 at that time with the single 40mm Dellorto and later in 1990 with dual 45 Dellortos. The engine caused some troubles the car has been towed twice from Sweden (from Södertälje in 1989 and from Norrköping in 1991) and once from Tampere, Finland in 1990. Pete was able to clock 1/4th mile in Motopark 15.585 and 1/8th mile in Kaanaa (near Tampere) 9.480. The later time was achived with the 45 Dellorto configuration.

Late in summer of 1990 car was painted to matt grey and it remained like that until in 1992 when it was painted as purple. One of the biggest improvements were 4-lug repro Centerlines which were ordered straight from US. In 1992 bumpers were re-fitted and stock 1300cc engine.

Two shots from Bug Run; in 1992 and waiting in stage line in 1990.

VW Expo, Turku, in 1995 where I saw the car for the first time parked next to Make Railo's '70.

During 1992-1995 car was painted as purple. Two-colour Resto-Look was achievied during the '92-'93 winter when the lower sides of the car was painted to silver. Pete got the idea from Car Custom's catalog, which featured similarily coloured (drawed) Beetle on the cover.

In 1997 car received the current matt black paint finish and it has remained like that to this day. The additions that have been done are on the technical side like a stroker engine in 1998. Currently Pete is focusing his '63 Old School car and the '74 is left waiting for better days in Kupla Kopla's garage.
