Rader

EMPI Raders on the left (installed on Type II) and Sears Raders on the right. Note that the Sears Raders are fitted to a Porsche 356B brake drum and that combination requires spacers.
Datasheet
Description Raders were manufactured by the Wheel Corporation of America, which had line of Rader wheel equipments for racing and show cars.

There are two versions of the Rader wheel, the EMPI version (sold through EMPI) and the Sears version (sold through Sears & Roebuck mail-order department store). The EMPI version has sharp ridges in middle of the spokes. The Sears version has flat spokes and solid center cap.

Raders consist of two parts steel rim and alloy bolt pattern piece which are stapled together. Today Raders are extremely rare and one of the most sought after VW wheels and that naturally makes them expensive. Raders aren't the strongest option for VW wheels due to the riveted two-piece design.

For more information about Radar wheels see David Mayes excellent web-site.

Repros are made by Midland Wheel Supplies, JGE and Randar. One of the coolest repro-wheel ideas relate to Raders wheels, the original Rader prototype-design is available as Der Steiner Rad and Bugganeers are manufacturing 17" version of the Rader wheel named as Escra.
